Mennonite Church Canada calls all of its congregations to pray for peace as a response to the senseless attack on worshippers at a mosque in the community of Ste-Foy, Quebec, on Sunday evening, Jan. 29, 2017.

For our Muslim neighbours: we grieve with you, and want to stand with you in this difficult time. As Christians, we condemn such heinous acts in the strongest possible terms, and lament with deepest anguish when any and all such acts are committed in the name of God of Abraham. Such acts do not align with the One we strive to follow. We uphold in prayer the victims, their families, and their communities.

For the perpetrator of this attack, and all perpetrators of hate and violence: we pray that, despite whatever has befallen you, that your hearts be transformed to acts of love and kindness toward all.

For our congregations across Canada, we encourage you to reach out to your neighbourhood mosques and Muslim communities with expressions of hope and peace.

We join with the communities comprising the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada and the Canadian Council of Churches as we recommit ourselves to strive for peace, justice, and reconciliation of all that divides us as a society and nation.

May God comfort all who mourn at this time.
